MANILA, Philippines - Adamson University went perfect on its two women’s morning session matches to grab the lead yesterday in the UAAP Season 78 beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.

Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza made quick work of University of the East’s Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat, 21-8, 21-7, before returning 45 minutes later to beat De La Salle’s Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo, 21-14, 21-18, to move up to 3-0 in the young season.

Ateneo kept within striking distance of Adamson as Alyssa Valdez and Bea Tan survived Far Eastern University’s Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza, 24-22, 21-17, for a 2-0 record.

In the men’s division, the Blue Eagles’ Marck Espejo and Ysay Marasigan tripped the Green Archers’ Carlo Sendo and Cris Dumago, 21-18, 21-16, for their third straight win.

UST later tied Ateneo for the lead as Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto rallied past Adamson’s Michael Sudaria and Rence Melgar, 20-22, 21-16, 15-7.

Defending champion National University improved to 2-1 as Bryan Bagunas and Madzlan Gampong nipped FEU’s Greg Dolor and Jude Garcia, 14-21, 21-11, 15-11, to rebound from its three-set loss to Ateneo Friday night.

The Tamaraws earlier beat the Archers in the morning session, 21-9, 18-21, 15-13, while University of the Philippines entered the win column after two straight losses with a 21-18, 21-15 win over University of the East.
