DCAA cage tourney on in Dagupan

DAGUPAN CITY , Philippines – The first Dagupan City Athletic Association (DCAA) basketball tournament got off to a rousing start Friday at the People’s Astrodome with at least  63 teams from public and private schools participating in boys and girls categories.

At least 27 teams will compete in the elementary level and 36 in the secondary level. Of the 27 teams in the elementary, six are girls’ teams. At least 11 girls teams are seeing action in the secondary level.

The tournament culminates with the championship match on Dec.  20.

DCAA president Manuel Ferrer said the games would be played in different venues.

The DCAA was organized by Mayor Belen Fernandez to promote the physical and mental development of the pupils and students in sports through a well-rounded sports program.

Leading the opening ceremony were schools division superintendent Froserfina Bravo and assistant schools division superintendent Lourdes Servito.

Mayor Fernandez was represented by Pogo Chico barangay chairman Brian Kua, commissioner Fenila Sim of the Dagupan City Sports Commission and lawyer Lemuel Astadan, also of the Dagupan City Sports Commission.

Spicing up the opening ceremony was the competion among different schools for the Mr. and Ms. DCAA 2015 in the elementary and secondary levels and in the hiphop dance contest.

Crowned Mr. and Ms. DCAA in the elementary were Richmond Jose Ramos of Lyceum Northwestern University – Creative Montessori Center and Geyan Kei Predas of Divine Word Academy.

In the secondary level,  the Mr. and Ms. DCAA were Christian Angelo Maramba of Wonderland School of Dagupan and Beatrice Gail Wong of Pangasinan Universal Institute.

The top three hiphop dance winners in the elementary were West Central 1 Elementary School, Pascuala Villamil Elementary School and St. Albert the Great School.

In the secondary level, the top three winners were Judge Jose De Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School, Saint Albert the Great School and Dagupan City National High School.
