Steve Nash joins Warriors coaching staff

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines – The Golden State Warriors are priming for another shot at the NBA title as early as now.

The Oakland-based ball club has made formal the hiring of two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash as a player development consultant, a statement made public over the weekend by Warriors.com indicated.

"Steve Nash was one of the best guards to ever play in this league and we are so happy to add him to our staff and have him working with our players,” Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr said via the announcement. “Even though he possessed incredible individual skills and abilities, Steve always played the game with a team-first mentality, which is something that we emphasize greatly within our group."

The Canadian Nash, who went on to log 19 years as a cager in the league, donned the Dallas Mavericks  and  Los Angeles uniforms before retiring earlier this year.

He was most notable as a two-time member of the Phoenix Suns where he made multiple playoff runs alongside top tier names in then prime-form Amare' Stoudemire, Shawn Marion and later on, Shaquille O'Neal.

The 6-foot-3 point guard was also a member of three-time NBA First-Team thrice (2005 through 2007). He hoisted  Maurice Podoloff trophy in back-to-back  seasons (2004 and 2005) and the only player below 6-foot-6 to win the award twice. He joins Earvin "Magic" Johnson as two of the only point guards to pocket the citation.

He appeared in a sum of 120 playoff games and wrapped up a stellar career with an average of 17.3 points per outing.

A member of the Canadian basketball team, he also displayed free throw shooting acumen, posting a record of 90.4% FT shooting, the 1st all-time record, barely beating out Mark Price, according to NBA.com/stats.

Nash, who also made a career out of passing highlights, ranked third in all-time assists. He dished out a total of 10,335 behind Jason Kidd's 12,091 and John Stockton's column-leading 15,806.

He retired March this year due to recurring back problems.

Finally we get a decent coach around here....
