Cyna back as LPGT resumes at Malarayat

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Cyna Rodriguez returns to the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour, seeking to become the first two-leg winner when the circuit resumes Wednesday at Mt. Malarayat’s composite courses in Lipa, Batangas.

Rodriguez skipped the last leg at ICTSI Luisita last month to honor a previous commitment and where Fil-Am Cristina Corpus turned back Thai Walailak Satarak with a late birdie-binge to nail her breakthrough victory in the circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.

But with Rodrigeuz back in the hunt, focus will be on the reigning back-to-back LPGT Order of Merit who will be trying to add the crown to her Riviera leg romp last May.

Rodriguez, winner of four legs last year, also took the top P100,000 at Wack Wack after losing to amateur ace Princess Superal in a playoff.

No player has scored a repeat so far in this year’s circuit sponsored by ICTSI with Korean Ye Nah Hwang ruling the kickoff leg at ICTSI Ladies Open, Thai Wichanee Meechai topping the next stop at Splendido, Superal and Rodriguez splitting top honors at Wack Wack and Riviera, respectively, Sarah Ababa finally scoring her first career win at Sherwood and Corpus prevailing at Luisita.

That makes the upcoming P500,000 event doubly exciting with Chihiro Ikeda also rejoining the title chase along with former leg winner Jayvie Agojo, Koreans Kim So Un and Oh Yeji, and local bets Lovelynn Guioguio, Apple Fudolin, Majorie Pulumbarit, Lucy Landicho, Barsy Leonen and England’s Sarah Henderson.

The event serves as the penultimate leg of the eight-stage circuit with the touring ladies winding up their chase at Southwoods for the Manila Southwoods Ladies Classic on Oct. 27-29.
