EAC Generals seek 4th in row

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning NCAA champion Emilio Aguinaldo College seeks to keep its flawless record as it clashes with a dangerous National College of Business and Arts today in the Spikers’ Turf Season 1-Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Already ensured of a quarterfinals berth following a 25-22, 26-24, 25-17 win over Mapua last week, the Generals will be gunning for a fourth straight triumph when they collide with the Wildcats, the reigning CUSA champions (2-1) at 3 p.m.

A win for EAC would clinch it the No. 1 spot in Group A as it leaves National University, also unscathed in three outings, at No. 2.

Howard Mojica, the NCAA MVP and part of the PLDT Home Ultera team that won the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference title last May, has been doing the tough chores for EAC as he currently leads everyone in scoring with a total of 63 hits.

But EAC coach Rodrigo Palmero said he is pinning his hopes more on playing good defense against NCBA.

“Our collective efforts on defense has always been the key,” said Palmero.

In Group B action, Taft neighbors La Salle and St. Benilde face off at 1 p.m. with the winner clinching a berth in the quarters.

The Archers and the Blazers are currently in a three-way tie at No. 2 with the State U Maroons on identical 2-1 marks.
