Globalport eyes strong start against Polo Escape
MANILA, Philippines - San Miguel and Globalport take on separate rivals today, both seeking decisive wins for the headstart in the 2015 Globalport Philippine Polo Championship today in two venues in Batangas.
Reinforced by Argentinians Mariano Obregon and Santi Lujan, Mikee Romero’s Globalport is slightly favored over Polo Escape when they clash at 2:30 p.m.
The fourth member of Globalport is long-hitting Adrian Garcia who is known for his all-around game.
With all six participating teams – the other two are Tang Polo-China and Thailand’s King Power – playing only two games in the elims, Romero said they need to come out with a strong start for the much-needed confidence and momentum.
“We have to play smart to achieve our goal which is to win convincingly. If we win by a big margin, our desire to win the title will also increase,” said Romero.
That’s also the target of Iñigo Zobel’s San Miguel when it takes on Los Tamaraos at 3:30 p.m. with the former determined to add the Globalport tournament to its growing list of victories.
With Zobel scoring two early goals, San Miguel won the Philippine Open Polo Championship last year with a 9-4 victory over Globalport.
