Andy Murray wants to see Pacquiao-Mayweather bout
MANILA, Philippines – Tennis superstar Andy Murray has joined the clamor for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to finally fight Manny Pacquiao in what is expected to be the biggest fight of this generation.
Murray, a self-confessed Pacquiao fan, got his wish to meet the Filipino ring icon during the welcome party at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel on the eve of the Coca-Cola International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) opener.
In return, he wished that Pacquiao may finally get the dream Mayweather fight that he’s been longing for years.
“It was nice [meeting him]. I’m a boxing fan so to get to meet him is cool especially here in his home country. I hope he gets the fight that he wants next year,” Murray told reporters after losing his matches in the opening day of the tour.
Murray though just contented himself with a small chat with the eight-division boxing champion.

“There was a lot of microphone, a lot of people around so we really didn’t get to talk. I just asked him about his fight last week and congratulated him for that and he said thanks for coming to the Philippines and have a good time,” Murray added.
Murray lost all his matches in the opening day of the IPTL, including a heartbreaking setback at the hands of reigning US Open champion Marin Cilic where he squandered a 5-4 lead to yield the match in the five-minute shootout. Prior to that, he teamed up with fellow Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova in the mixed doubles and lost another close one, 6-4, to Kristina Mladenovic and doubles specialist Nenad Zimonic.
Though Murray lost on Friday, he still felt like a winner with the chance Pacquiao meeting. He is hoping to see Pacquiao at the gallery when he tries to bounce back in the next two days of the IPTL tour.
