Beat Algieri first, Floyd tells Manny
MANILA, Philippines - There must be something in the water he drank in Moscow that Floyd Mayweather once again expressed openness to face Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather is in a European tour, and the other day the undefeated pound-for-pound champion was at the Russian capital, according to www.boxingscene.com.
The great American fighter dropped by a local gym to meet some amateurs.
Mayweather faced a ton of questions, from his most recent victory over Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas to his anticipated fight with Pacquiao.
After he scored a clear win over Maidana, the 37-year-old Mayweather said he’s open to finally facing Pacquiao inside the ring.
“If the Manny Pacquiao fight presents itself, then let’s make it happen. I’m not ducking any opponent,” said Mayweather a couple of weeks back.
Fight fans jumped with anticipation.
But as soon as the day after the fight, it seemed that Mayweather tried to avoid further questions about the Pacquiao fight.
The flamboyant American boxer went to the extent of saying that the fight will only happen if it would only involve Showtime and Mayweather Promotions.
And none of HBO and Top Rank. It’s short of saying that Mayweather won’t let the fight happen.
However, during the short stop at the local gym in Moscow, Mayweather again hinted of the possibility.
Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against Chris Algieri in Macau on Nov. 23.
“Let him beat Algieri first, and then we’ll talk,” Mayweather said in an article written by Yuri Tarantin.
