WNCAA: CKS, LSCA earn semis bonus

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College and host La Salle College Antipolo sustained their winning runs to earn semifinal incentives in the 45th WNCAA junior basketball at CKSC Narra gym in Manila last Sunday.

Top-ranked Junior A squad LSCA whipped St. Stephen’s High School, 58-19, while Junior B topnotcher CKSC walloped St. Paul College Pasig, 68-38, in the quarterfinals. LSCA and CKSC both won all their five elimination round games and will carry the twice-to-beat  bonus in the semis. 

Miriam College also won over Assumption College, 56-38, and De La Salle Zobel trounced Angelicum College, 66-49, for the other Final Four berths. 

LSCA will take on DLSZ and CKSC will face Miriam in Saturday’s Final Four at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

In junior volleyball of the league supported by Mikasa, Molten, OneA Bed and Breakfast, Goody, Monster Radio RX 93.1 and AksyonTV, Miriam’s midget and junior squads also topped the elimination round.

Miriam beat San Beda College Alabang, 25-4, 25-5, for a 6-1 slate. Poveda also wound up with a 6-1 record but dropped its earlier match to Miriam.  Defending champion DLSZ booked the No. 3 spot at 5-2.

In Junior A, Miriam outlasted St. Scholastica’s College, 17-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-21, for a 5-0 sweep while relegating its victim to No. 2 with its first loss in five starts.

In senior futsal, Rizal Technological University will go for a fifth straight crown against Centro Escolar University in Sunday’s championship at CEU gym.

Philippine Women’s University and Assumption College will dispute the third place.
