Gilas to host fans day before Asiad campaign

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Gilas Pilipinas will hold a fans day on Wednesday outside the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The street party which will start at 5 p.m. and open to public will serve as thanksgiving for the successful return to the FIBA World Cup and send-off party for the 2014 Asian Games.

Gilas returned to the FIBA World Cup after 36 years of absence and even recorded the country's first victory in 40 years with an 81-79 win over Senegal in their last assignment. They came one win short of crashing into the Round of 16. They finished with a 1-4 win-loss record with three of those defeats decided in the final minute and overtime.

Gilas will aim to end the 52-year old gold medal drought of the country in the Asian Games.
