Eaglets rout Jr Maroons, solidify Jumbo lead

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo rode on a big second quarter attack to run away with an 84-68 rout of University of the Philippines and firm up its hold of the solo lead in the first Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup 2014 at the Enderun Colleges gym in Taguig City over the weekend.

Brix Ramos and Justin Eustaquio took charge for the Eaglets, who notched their fourth straight win in the preseason tournament for top Metro Manila high school teams.

Ramos scored four of his 13 points in the second quarter as the Eaglets raced to a 46-33 lead at halftime after outscoring the Junior Maroons, 19-12.

Estaquio matched Ramos’ output while Enzo Joson and Marc Salandanan had 12 points each for Ateneo.

Meanwhile, Fran Yu exploded for 29 points as multi-titled Chiang Kai Shek College rolled to its third straight win with a 104-68 drubbing of University of Perpetual Help College in the tournament presented by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.

Adamson also romped to a 75-58 win over Hope Christian High School in the tournament backed by Smart Telecommunications, K-tech Sports, Inc., Powerbest Marketing, CW Home Depot, Powerhouse and Dickies Underwear.

Four other CKSC players scored in double figures with Van Pilanga and Rafaelo Toribio chipping in 16 and 14 points, respectively, as the Dragons improved to 3-1.

EJ Agbong scattered 13 of his team-high 18 points in the second half as the Baby Falcons broke the game open en route to victory.
