Dubai high on biggest Pinoy Pride slugfest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Pinoy Pride boxing series goes to Dubai next month with Filipino Genesis Servania seeking to defend his WBO intercontinental super bantamweight crown against Mexican Jose Cabrera in the Pinoy Pride XXVII: Duel in Dubai on Sept. 5 at the Dubai World Trade Center.

The series, put up by premier network The Filipino Channel, ABS-CBN Corp.’s sports channel ABS-CBN Sports+Action and ALA Promotions, has pitted the Philippines’ best fighters against the world’s best year after year with the Pagara brothers, Jason and Albert, winning the last duel last month.

For the upcoming fight, the series will round-up three matches featuring three top Filipino fighters, including the main event pitting the unbeaten Servania from Bacolod against Cabrera.

Another Bacolod native, Arthur Villanueva will take on Nicaraguan Henry Maldonado for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight title.

Also on tap is the Rey Bautista-Juan Jose Martinez in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds.

“We are optimistic that this will be one of the biggest boxing events in Dubai and we are excited to see our kababayans enjoy the bouts, take pride in the boxing skills of the Filipinos and give their all-out support for the fighters,” said Edgardo Garcia, managing director for ABS-CBN Middle East and ABS-CBN Europe,
