Rally champ to coach Via Mare volley team

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Former car rally champion Vip Isada returns to his first love as he mentors the Via Mare men’s volleyball club debuting in the 2014 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference presented by PLDT Home DSL beginning tomorrow at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Isada, also a former national volleyball player and a national coach and mentor of the UP squad in the UAAP, will have members of the UP Alumni volleyball team to represent Via Mare in the premier club volleyball league which has for its second season its theme: “Ito ang volleyball!”

Also returning is actor Richard Gomez, who will try to lead the Systema Active Smashers to a better finish after placing runner-up to the PLDT TVolution Power Attackers in last year’s PSL Grand Prix.

“Vip is acknowledged as a living legend in men’s volleyball. And like Richard, he has played other sports as well and excelled in the sport of car racing,” Ramon Suzara, PSL president and chief of the organizing Score, said. “Their presence in the PSL courts will make competitions even tougher this time.”

Competing against PLDT, Systema and Via Mare are the Instituto Estetica Manila and Cignal HD Spikers.

In the women’s division, two-conference champion Philippine Army, now carrying the colors of Generika Drugstore, is again tipped as the team to beat.

New team AirAsia Flying Spikers, RC Cola-Air Force Raiders, PLDT TVolution Power Attackers, Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns and the Petron Blaze Spikers, who bagged top pick Din-Din Santiago, are also tipped to figure prominently this conference.
