Game 7 – Epic showdown looms for Kings, Mixers
MANILA, Philippines - It’s the end of the road, a no-tomorrow match and a fitting climax to a see-sawing series for the second final berth in the PLDT MyDSL PBA Philippine Cup.
Barangay Ginebra slugs it out with San Mig Coffee in Game 7 of their Final Four matchup as the Gin Kings and the Mixers finally end their gut-wrenching showdown with its share of drama and thrills that could easily rival classic championship matches.
Gametime is at 8 p.m. tonight before an expected record crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with the winner facing early finalist Rain or Shine in another best-of-seven showdown.
It boils down to one final game after the Mixers triumphed in Games One, Three and Five and the Kings got even in Games Two, Four and Six.
Except for one game, the two teams fought in a battle that could have gone either way.
San Mig Coffee is chasing a crack at a sixth Philippine Cup title while Ginebra is in pursuit of a shot at a fourth all-Filipino crown.
“No doubt, Game Six was a tough one for us to swallow. We felt we had it and then it was ripped away from us. Credit to Ginebra. But it’s been a great series, a tough series with a lot of drama, and it seems only fitting that it should go to a Game Seven,†said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone.
“This is what we play for. As my daughter always reminds me, the best two words in sports: Game Seven,†Cone also said.
For the Kings, the mindset is to march forward after forcing the rubber match on a 94-91 win Monday.
“We’re given this opportunity, and we should do our best to grab it,†said Ginebra coach Ato Agustin.
“We’ve found the right formula in Game Six and we’re sticking to it. We need to press, be aggressive, cut down on our errors and pour on all our energy,†Agustin also said.
