Shopaholic diaries: How she got a P4000-rebate from her last online purchase

MANILA, Philippines – I am now finally replacing my old laptop that I’ve been using for the longest time. I have been saving for months for a new Macbook Pro that I’ve been dreaming about since forever.  Just like everyone who’s about to make a big purchase, I first visited almost every shop that sells a Macbook pro at the mall to do a canvass. Every peso counts, even a few hundred pesos worth of savings is such a big deal for me.

I went to five different stores in Glorietta and the cheapest I found was at P102,000++. I also tried searching for secondhand items online but that’s just my second option as I really wanted something brand new which also comes with warranty.

Finally, I saw the exact model I saw in Glorietta in Lazada. It was going for only P92,000++. Great! It even had warranty and also a 30-day return policy. That means I’d have a P10,000 in savings by buying my desired laptop online.

But did you know that I earned additional savings of almost P4,000?

Here’s how I did it:

  1. I used the latest rebate/cashback website in the Philippines called www.shopback.ph where they offer rebates from top websites like Lazada, ZALORA, Agoda, and many more of up to 30 percent. Discounts vary per category, so for me, since I am a new customer of Lazada and I’m looking to buy an item from their electronics category, I got a 4-percent rebate!
  2. I signed up for an account on ShopBack and then clicked on the Lazada icon there that directed me to the Lazada website where I could then shop.
  3. On Lazada, I searched for the Macbook Pro that I wanted to buy and finally paid for it.
  4. Within 48 hours, I checked my ShopBack account and there I saw my rebate or cashback of P3,680.
  5. After around 75 days, I withdrew my rebate by transferring it into my BDO account. They also have other options to withdraw the money such as Metrobank, BPI, and even PayPal.

Online purchases are really getting more convenient these days and, most of the time, more budget-friendly. All we need to do is scout for the best deals and promo codes, and then use saving tools such as ShopBack to earn more on top of existing discounts.

I checked out their website and here are some more interesting things about them that you might find useful when making purchases online.

  • They have a lot of partner websites that you can get rebates/cashback from. Some websites are ZALORA, which offers up to 12 percent cashback; hotel booking sites such as Expedia, Hotels.com, Agoda, and Booking.com that offer up to 8 percent cashback too. You can even get an extra 4 percent cashback on the deal site, Ensogo!
  • In order to encash the rebate/cashback, minimum redeemable rebate must be P300. You have to wait for your rebate to turn from pending to redeemable before it can be encashed.
  • They also have a great promo with Philstar, a 100 percent cashback offer wherein people can buy anything worth up to P300 and get a cashback/rebate of up to P300 in their ShopBack accounts!. It’s only valid today (Feb. 22 to 29, 2016) and only for new ShopBack users who sign up through www.shopback.ph/philstar. See full terms and conditions at www.shopback.ph/philstar.
