Music is everywhere at the Ayala Malls

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Ayala Malls sets the stage for its most symphonic season yet, as it becomes the new home for the metro’s most-revered musical act, the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

With the kindred mission of enriching the Filipino’s cultural life, the Ayala Malls and the Manila Symphony Orchestra bring the once-reserved world of classical music closer to everyday mall-goers with intimate peeks at musical practices, summer workshops, as well as vibrant performance galas.

This March, Ayala Mall patrons will witness the behind-the-scenes of a successful orchestra performance, as Manila Symphony Orchestra reveals its rehearsal sessions at the cosmopolitan center of Glorietta 5. Here, not only are the shoppers treated to afternoons of soothing classical music, they also get a glimpse at the technical yet masterful tinkering of the country’s finest musicians. With this, the almost 180-year-old orchestra aims to show that classical music is alive and thriving with the everyday workings of its musicians, and perhaps inspire the audiences to take part in this musical journey themselves.

The Ayala Malls and the Manila Symphony Orchestra will also conduct three-hour training sessions with the orchestra’s finest masters absolutely free. Here, kids and teens can get the chance to learn how to play the violin under the tutelage of the orchestra’s greatest musicians starting at the UP Town Center on April 12, the Fairview Terraces Mall on April 19, BGC’s Market! Market! on April 26, Alabang Town Center on May 3, and at the Solenad on May 17.

Glorietta 5 last March 5  witnessed the epic staging of Manila Symphony Orchestra Academy’s recital, introducing the metro to a new and exciting roster of classical music’s future movers.

On March 21, in celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 300th birthday, the Manila Symphony Orchestra simultaneously played their ode to the German composer’s enduring hymns in hour-long performances in various sites of the metro: at Greenbelt’s The Gallery, Alabang Town Center’s Corte delas Palmas, TriNoma’s Park Level, and Glorietta 5’s Atrium.

In June, the halls of Glorietta and Greenbelt will be filled with the beautiful music as Manila Symphony Orchestra shares the stage with the world-renowned Harvard Orchestra. With their studied aptitude for their musical instruments, as well as newer, fresher takes on enduring themes, these orchestras are expected to showcase the lasting and continuing relevance of music in our daily lives.
