Japan turns over solar power system to Manila

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Japan turned over a solar electricity generation system to the Philippine government for public buildings in Metro Manila to support local efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Japanese Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa turned over the green energy system in a ceremony held last week at the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Quezon City for the Japan-funded Project for Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System. The ceremony was also attended by Energy Secretary Zenaida Monsada, Interior Secretary Mel Sarmiento and PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez.

In the project, Japan assisted the installation of solar photovoltaic power generation systems to public buildings in Metro Manila and conducted necessary training to operate and maintain the facilities. The system is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing consumption volume of fossil fuels for thermal power generation in the country and promote efforts to address climate change with better access to clean energy.

The efficiency of Japanese environmental technology is expected to be widely appreciated by Filipinos through this project seen to further boost the strategic partnership between the two countries.
