P50M restoration project of old City Hall bldg starts

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Finally, the groundbreaking of the P50-million restoration project of Dumaguete’s old City Hall building is scheduled on January 24, with funding from the National Museum.

Mayor Felipe Remollo announced this to the city government employees, and directed the City Engineer’s Office to start assisting and coordinating with the departments that will be affected by the restoration project.

Remollo assured the City Schools Division, the city employees, and the public that there will still be egress and engress at the old building.

The mayor has plans of landscaping the building, with trees and plants, towards the Quezon Park up to the Belfry of the Cathedral. When finished, it will not just be a regional museum for artifacts but the entire landscaped area will have a mini-oval for promenaders

Remollo is very optimistic 2018 will be a better year for Dumaguete City. The laying of the time capsule for the project will be on the 24th also, and the mayor said he expects the restoration of the façade of the old City Hall done in seven months.
