In Western Visayas Agaton floods brgys, strands hundreds

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Continuous rain aggravated by tropical depression Agaton has flooded 86 villages in Capiz province, as of 12 noon yesterday, according to the Police Regional Office-6.

Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson, said flood waters from another village already subsided.

Gorero clarified that the national road from Capiz to Iloilo are passable "except Tawog National Highway going to Mambusao which is not passable to all vehicles and barangay roads of Sunshine Subdivision and Sitio Sugod, Poblacion Norte, Mangoso, Bangonbangon, Capuyhan, Acbo, Mansacul, and Matangcong, which are passable to all vehicles."

But as of late afternoon yesterday, Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, Capiz Police provincial director, said that the national road from Capiz to Iloilo are already passable. "The floodwaters already subsided except in some barangay roads," he added.

The water level in Tugas village, the road between Sigma and Mambusao town going to Kalibo, Aklan, has also subsided.

Meanwhile, 25 families were also evacuated, from the towns of Dao, Dumaglag and Mambusao in Capiz province.

Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo Station said there was a cancellation of sea travel in Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces at 6 a.m. yesterday after Typhoon Signal number 1 was hoisted over these areas.

The cancellation had stranded 380 passengers and 67 vehicles, but this was lifted at 2 p.m. yesterday, and sea travel resumed.

So far, there was no report of any person who died, went missing, or got wounded due to Agaton's onslaught.
