P100T aid for slain soldiers’ kin okayed

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Families of the five Negrense soldiers killed in the five-month gunbattle with ISIS-inspired Maute terrorist group are getting financial assistance from the Negros Occidental provincial government.

This was after the Provincial Board, during its regular session on Wednesday, approved an amount of P100,000 as financial support to the families of the five slain Negrense soldiers, as endorsed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.

This money is on top of the financial assistance of P3,000 each, rice, food packs and canned goods, provided to them last week by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, according to Maria Lina Sanogal, action officer of the Provincial Peace and Order Council.

Last week, Marañon led the heroes’ welcome for the Army’s 31st Division Reconnaissance Company who returned to Negros from Marawi, without incurring any casualty or injuries.

The five Negrense soldiers who died in the Marawi battle, and conferred with honors also, were: Staff Sergeants Joseph Villanueva and Murphy Pulalon, Privates First Class Ramonito Occeña and  Ariel Arquio, and Corporal Arjelito Baroa. (FREEMAN)
