Negros Cares campaign launched

Gilbert P. Bayoran - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines —The Negros Occidental provincial government is now leading the Negros Cares campaign to raise funds to help in the rehabilitation of Marawi City, which was devastated by the 5-month war between government troops and the ISIS-inspired Maute terrorist group.

The provincial government earlier gave P1 million in financial assistance to displaced people of Marawi.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he had asked permission from President Rodrigo Duterte, during the latter’s visit at the MassKara Festival celebration on Sunday, to launch the Negros Cares campaign to help Marawi.

Marañon said everybody can help, from the pedicab drivers to the local government units, and that any amount will do, to be deposited in drop boxes distributed around the province.

He said he will also tapped the sugar industry, the religious sector, non- government organizations, civil society and the private sectors in raising funds for Negros Cares.

President Duterte thanked Marañon for initiating the project. (FREEMAN)
