Boat waterlogged, 3 rescued off Capul island in N. Samar
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Patrolling policemen on Wednesday rescued three fishermen offshore of the island of Capul town in Northern Samar, after big waves waterlogged their motorboat with most part of it submerged below the surface.
Police said the fishermen were on their way to deliver their catch to Naval town in Biliran when sudden strong winds and big waves struck their boat.
Northern Samar Police Provincial Office Director, Senior Superintendent Felix Diloy, identified the rescued fishermen as Ricardo Rosasena, Ceasar Tupaz, and Dino Atigo, all residents of Cataingan, Masbate .
The responding policemen, headed by Inspector Ricardo Benjamin, first saw a piece of white cloth hanged on the flagstaff of the waterlogged boat, which they sensed as a signal for help.
This prompted the policemen to sail to the distressed boat, get the fishermen out and bring the latter to the Allen District Hospital in mainland Northern Samar province for medical attention.
Diloy said the fishermen are now safe from danger. (FREEMAN)
