‘Adik’ rapes, slaughters 86-yr-old ma, eats her

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 52-year-old man, believed to be an ‘adik’ or high on drugs, allegedly raped his 86-year-old mother, then slaughtered her and ate her inside her house at purok 5, Barangay Boloc-boloc in Sibulan town of Negros Oriental Sunday evening.

These were the initial results of the investigations conducted by the Sibulan Police, reportedly based on testimonies of eye witnesses who were in the area of the house of victim Josefina Manaban.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Earl Ahmad Diaz identified the suspect as Roger Manaban, who was caught by responding policemen with bloodied face, clad in bloody shorts and t-shirt, and in possession of the murder weapon.

According to eyewitnesses, Roger stabbed her mother several times, slashed her stomach and face, ate the flesh and threw her body parts outside the house.

Diaz said, a medico legal investigation is being conducted to determine if the half-naked victim was raped according to claims of eye witnesses, while the suspect was arrested half naked as well. Parricide charges are being readied against the suspect, said the police.

The victim’s daughter, Violeta dela Peña who lives in Piapi beach, was bringing food for her mother when she noticed a very unusual behavior of her elder brother Roger, who just arrived at about 5 p.m. yesterday at their mother’s house.

Dela Peña said Roger has a family in Davao with two children. She said he returned to Negros Oriental a year ago, but had no permanent address and work, and was merely moving from one relative to the other.

She said that Roger came to their mother’s house sane but lately she strongly believed that Roger got addicted to illegal drugs, although the police has yet to determine this claim.

Reporters tried to get the side of the arrested suspect but to no avail. He can only identify his name and the name of his mother. (FREEMAN)
