Panglao, 3rd most competitive among 1,500 LGUs

PANGLAO, BOHOL, Philippines — Mayor Leonila Montero announced that Panglao town won third most competitive award among 1,500 local government units in the country, under the 3rd-6th class municipality category, in this year's Annual Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) by the National Competitiveness Council.

Montero received the award during the 5th Annual Regional Competitiveness Summit held last Wednesday at the PICC in Manila.

Guillermo Luz, co-chair for the NCC's private sector, informed Montero of the achievement of her LGU, after gaining exemplary performance based on four pillars — economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency.

Vice Mayor Pedro Fuertes confirmed the award conferred on the Panglao LGU, adding that the town was also named among the top 20 finalists in the search for Galing Pook Awards 2017.

Montero said that her LGU's entry program was “A Purok-Based Approach in Basic Education Reforms/Turo-Turismo: Strengthening Partnership and Industry Linkage for Effective K-12 Implementation.”

Meanwhile, the town of Pilar in Bohol was also included in the Galing Pook 2017's Top 20 finalists for its "Productivity Improvement thru landcare and Agriculture Resource Development and Management (Pilar Dam) Program."
