In Tanjay City; Teves scion falls for drugs

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A scion of the Teves family in Tanjay City is now in trouble for illegal drugs.

Joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, headed by Chief Inspector Julius Garcia, the Provincial Intelligence Branch, the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, and the Philipine Drug Enforcement Administration went to the house of Kenneth Teves at Sta Cruz Viejo, Barangay Palanas in Tanjay City.

The police teams, following validated reports Kenneth has been involved in the illegal drug trade, served the search warrant—issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 43 Judge Winston Villegas—on the suspect at around 4:45 p.m. Friday.

Garcia and his team searched the room of Kenneth and recovered, from a vault, six big sachets of shabu, weighing about 21 grams, illegal drugs paraphernalia, and P220,800 cash believed to be the proceeds from the drug trade.

Garcia told The Freeman that Kenneth initially denied ownership of the vault, even if it was found inside his room. The latter also objected to have it opened, insisting that it is owned by his mother who is out of the country at the time.

Sensing that something was inside the vault, Garcia curiously peeped through a small opening at the back of the vault while pointing a small flashlight into the other hole. He was able to see a rolled tinfoil and a small bamboo stick, which later turned out to be an improvised sealer.

The vault was then forcibly opened with the use of a hammer, showing the kept sachets of shabu and the money, which are now part of the evidences by the police.

The CIDG official said the directorate for intelligence has included Kenneth as among the drugs personalities in Tanjay City.

Kenneth’s father is former city councilor Steve Teves Sr., who lost in the mayoralty race in the May 2016 elections, and nephew of a suspended vice mayor Lawrence Teves. His elder brother, Steve Teves Jr is the village chief of Palanas. (FREEMAN)
