PCG on alert for All Saints’ Day break

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be on heightened alert in anticipation of the number of Metro Manila passengers who will flock to the provinces for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, an official said yesterday.

PCG spokesperson Commander Armand Balilo said the agency would be on alert from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3.

Balilo said they would mobilize around 10,000 PCG personnel starting Oct. 28 to ensure the safety of the passengers.

Coast Guard commandant Rear Admiral William Melad ordered all PCG units to step up security at major seaports to prevent maritime accidents.

Melad said passenger assistance centers and medical teams would be set up at the seaports.

The public may take advantage of the long weekend as the government has declared Oct. 31, which falls on a Monday, a special non-working holiday.
