After her FB post goes viral: Female student, 18, admits making ‘abduction try’ up

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — As heavy downpour of rain battered this city on Monday, 18-year-old Becca (not her real name) was almost kidnapped as she was braving the weather and wading on an ankle-deep water along East Timawa of Molo district, Iloilo City.

On her Facebook account, Becca, an 18-year B.S. Hotel and Restaurant Management student of the University of San Agustin, narrated that they were dismissed from class around 6:30 p.m. She noted that, since floodwaters were all over the street outside their school, she was forced to walk going home in Fundidor, a village in Molo several kilometers away.

As she was walking along Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital around 7:00 p.m., two men allegedly approached her, grabbed her hair as they were forcing her to get inside a black Honda Civic. But she allegedly fought hard to shake off from her “abductors.”

On her Facebook, she posted: “Thank God, may dumaan na jeep na kahit sobrang puno pinasakay ako. Thank you, kuya driver. Kung sino man kayo kanina, f—k you with feelings! Masakit pa yung paghila ng buhok ko.” She ended her post by saying, “be safe, guys.”

Netizens quickly believed her story considering that she also posted a photograph of her back with her dirty school uniform on. In a span of an hour, Becca’s post quickly gained around 6,000 reactions and elicited close to 2,000 comments, most of which warning their family members and friends to be safe.

The following day, around 7:20 a.m., Becca, accompanied by his family, went to Molo Police Station to report the incident. Immediately after, “we conducted an investigation in a hope of identifying her attackers,” said Senior Inspector Mark Cordero, Molo Police chief.

A team of police investigators looked for footages from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in areas where Becca and her “assailants” could have passed by. But no footage to suggest that Becca was seen in the areas where she was expected to have passed by.

Several hours later, Becca again appeared before the Molo Police Station. But this time around, she admitted to have made up such post to attract attention.

In her affidavit, she admitted that her allegations were untrue and exaggerated. She also acknowledged that the police investigation result was factual and true. “I admit and confess that I only fabricated such scenario/incident only to attach the attention of the public, as well as my family,” she said.

Becca also apologized for misleading and deceiving the public, and even the police officers. Cordero said the girl admitted that she’s having family problems causing her to make up stories. (FREEMAN)
