Hoffman, Chan promise brawl in URCC grudge match

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Chris Hofmann and Arvin “Asintado” Chan will settle their score as they clash in a grudge match headlining the Universal Reality Combat Championship’s Fight Night card on June 25 at the Palace Pool Club.

Chan, in an inflammatory post on Facebook, had belittled Hofmann’s punching power following the latter’s victory over Caloy Baduria last April and called out the Fil-Swiss for a duel. URCC heard him and obliged, setting up a non-title catchweight fight.

Hofmann, the URCC light heavyweight titlist, said he would let his fists do the talking.

“I’m gonna put him to sleep. Either the referee has to stop the fight or someone has to wake him up,” Hofmann said during yesterday’s press conference.

“Tapos na yung social media war, sa loob na lang kami ng cage mag-usap (The social media war is over; it’s time to settle this in the cage),” said Chan.

URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar said they expect explosive action not only in the Hofmann-Chan brawl but also in the seven other bouts penciled in the first Fight Night for 2016.

John Adajar, a Hitman MMA standout, and Jericho Tomagan a DEFTAC fighter, will duke it out in a welterweight mano-a-mano that will serve as co-main event while MJ Abrillo from Yaw-Yan Kampilan and former pinweight challenger Eddie Estrada will mix it up in a flyweight duel between two striking specialists.

The other undercards will pit Jued Castillo against Von Darbon Prado at featherweight; Jhong Hurtado against John Gonzalez at flyweight; Ferdinand Batac against Arjay Bongala, and Romeo Macaraya versus Rodian Mechavez both at bantamweight; and Rommel Lugo against Ariel Lampacan at flyweight.
