Italy, Iloilo LGU ink P26M post Yolanda aid

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Italy has committed P26-million integrated emergency initiative to assist the provincial government of Iloilo for communities affected by super typhoon Yolanda.

The post-Yolanda aid was sealed through a memorandum of agreement signed by Italian Ambassador Massimo Roscigno and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor. Both leaders have manifested their commitment to ensure the province’s full recovery.

The aid is in addition to Italy’s P53-million donation to the Philippines as part of their bilateral cooperation and support to strategic response plan to Yolanda-stricken provinces.

The assistance, which will come mostly as livelihood projects, will also be given to affected communities in Tanauan town in Leyte and Guiuan town in Eastern Samar through an Italian non-government organization.

The Iloilo provincial government said the aid will also fund some income generating activities through the purchase and provision of agricultural and fishery equipment to be donated to local agricultural cooperatives. — Jennifer P. Rendon with reports from Capitol News
