Dumaguete honors Ms. World-Phl 1st Princess

CEBU, Philippines - The Dumaguete City government on Wednesday paid tribute to Lorraine Kendrickson, the reigning Miss Dumaguete who took the crown as 1st Princess of Miss World-Philippines.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr. led city officials during the City Council session in confering the commendation to Kendrickson for giving “prestige and honor” to Dumaguete.

Kendrickson, 20, who won the 2013 Miss Dumaguete beauty pageant, had officially represented the city to the Miss World-Philippines pageant held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City last October 12. She was named Ms. World-Philippines 1st Princess, next to Ms. World-Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann.

Kendrickson returned to her hometown of Dumaguete to attend the ongoing Buglasan Festival of the province of Negros Oriental celebrated every third week of October. She will be staying in the city from October 22 to 26 to grace the Buglasan Festival and join the Festival of Festivals grand showdown and street parade this weekend.

During a press briefing, Kendrickson reiterated her support to the city, under the Sagarbarria administration, for giving her the opportunity to represent her “beloved Dumaguete City,” which she said was her “full inspiration throughout the journey” in the Miss World-Philippines pageant.

Sagarbarria, for his part, thanked Kendrickson for bringing the name of Dumaguete and make it popular nationwide as one of the best places to live in. He told the beauty queen as being “a model for Filipinas in Dumaguete,” and made Dumagueteños “very proud.”

Kendrickson will return to Metro Manila this weekend to join the other winners for various charity events, as set by the pageant organizers, at the Philippine General Hospital and the Tuloy Foundation for marginalized children, among others. —Judy Flores Partlow (FREEMAN)
