Two missing fishermen found dead
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The two fishermen who went missing on Tuesday when their fishing boat capsized off the waters of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental, were found dead Wednesday morning and late Thursday.
Chief Inspector Willy Diel, head of Sipalay City Police Office, confirmed that the bodies of 35-year-old Aleo Delgado and his nephew, 26-year-old Robert Tahonero, both residents of Sipalay City, were recovered from the shores of Barangay 2, of the same city.
Diel said the two fishermen, along with four others, went fishing Tuesday afternoon, but strong currents and big waves sunk their fishing boat.
The four survivors were identified as Mark Apolinario, Leo Tarug, Dan-Dan Santiago and Rommel Tarug, managed to swim towards the shores but their boat, along with Delgado and Tahonero, drifted farther out to the sea.
Two of the survivors were brought to the Infirmary in Sipalay City after reportedly taking in saline water as they swam to safety. — Marchel P. Espina (FREEMAN)
