KALAHI-CIDSS Expanding projects to 117 towns in WV

Montesa Griño Caoyonan - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services is now expanding more projects to 117 towns in western Visayas in response to the devastation of last year's typhoon Frank.

KALAHI-CIDSS deputy regional project manager Leo Quintilla said various local government units in the region, especially those typhoon-hit areas, have already submitted letters of intent and proposal for different projects they wanted to undertake under the program.

"The chosen LGU will be the one to identify projects they need the most," Quintilla told reporters in a press conference conducted in the city.

Quintilla said most of the proposed projects were based on the primary needs of a particular area, such as day care centers, health sanitations, road improvements, water systems, solar dryers, school buildings and barangay halls, among others.

"But this time, the KALAHI-CIDSS program will not focus only on community-based infrastructures but also projects that will reduce the vulnerability of the areas to disasters," he said.
