Beddings business booms as property market prospers

MANILA, Philippines — One sector reaping the benefits of a booming real estate industry in the Philippines is the beddings and towels business.

And Canadian Beddings, the country’s leading manufacturer of bed sheets, comforters, pillowcases and towels, knows this too well.

In a recent interview with The STAR, Canadian Beddings marketing director Chand Daryanani said the property boom has  been contributing significantly to the growth of the company, an Indian family-owned business operating in the Philippines.

He attributed the company’s success mainly to the quality of products it offers.

“We have cotton from all over the world. We have a complete range to give the market very good quality merchandise,” Daryanani said.

The company has two factories in Parañaque and plans to add another one soon.

Canadian Beddings, whose parent company was born in 1959, has survived the changing times and many periods in between.

 Its secret?

“We keep adapting to the market. The market will always dictate your next move,” Daryanani said.

In the Philippines, he said, the market is very vibrant.

“The Philippines is a melting pot of styles,” he said.

In recent years, the company has noticed a growth in the market of beddings and linens because those living in condominiums also want the best for their interior, he said.

The booming tourism industry – resorts and hotels – is also contributing to the growth of the linens business as well.

To keep the company constantly growing and on the top of mind of consumers, it regularly comes up with new products, Daryanani said.

Toward this end, Canadian Beddings recently unveiled a new line of products that will support a movement that aims to promote responsible and sustainable sourcing of cotton worldwide.

The company showcased its new products from various brands during a recent tradeshow where it also launched a movement dubbed, #ImCotton in the Philippines.

“The idea of #ImCotton came upon our realization that majority of our merchandise are made out of 100 percent cotton. It is known to be the best material when it comes to bed linens, towels and pillows. Our company is known to be innovative, having the knowledge of what cotton can bring to the table – the extra softness, strength and durability to name a few,” Daryanani said.

The movement forms part of Canadian’s Beddings’ diverse initiatives that target an industry that serves not only its customers but also the world as a whole — prioritizing how it may contribute to creating a sustainable community and environment.

It supports The Better Cotton Initiative, also known as BCI, which exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.

They provide a set of standards for countries that grow cotton.

Currently, Canadian Beddings continues to bring in different types of cotton from around the world: Egypt, USA, Africa and Brazil to cater to the needs of the different types of consumers in the market. Majority of the cotton they use goes under the standard of the BCI.

Just recently, the company launched its new collections under Lifestyle Premium, mainstay collection that caters to the high-end market; Lifestyle Moods for the younger demographics; Lifestyle Pick N Go for the budget conscious market; Lifestyle Towels and Modern Linens collection for the budget conscious market as well. It also has a Character Collection for the kids.

All these collections have varying features such as thread and cotton count microfiber, to name a few that give customers the comfort they need. The company is product that they are able to lead innovations when it comes to manufacturing linens, towers and pillows, among others.

“We value comfort, while taking into account responsible and sustainable sourcing of materials — because this is what matters. We need to be able to give back to communities and to the environment,” Daryanani said.

Canadian Beddings is owned by Canadian Manufacturing under umbrella company, New Creation Manufacturing, which to this day, is the leading manufacturer of high quality bed linens in the country.
