Man nabbed for rape
CEBU, Philippines - A 20-year-old hearing impaired man was arrested by the police after he was accused of raping his female friend in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City last week.
Police Officer 1 Juliet Trogo of the Women and Children Protection Desk of Mandaue City Police Office said the victim, who also has hearing problem, was waiting for a jeepney ride home near the public cemetery at around 6 p.m. when the incident happened last January 15.
Trogo said the victim and the suspect were classmates in a program for people with special needs offered by a religious group in Mandaue City. The Freeman withheld the identities of both the victim and the suspect due to the sensitivity of the case.
According to Trogo, the victim came from a fellowship with the suspect on that day. On her way home to Lapu-Lapu City, the victim waited for a jeepney ride near the public cemetery. The suspect followed and forced her inside the cemetery where she was raped.
The victim did not immediately tell her parents about what happened. It was only recently that her parents learned, prompting them to report to the police.
A hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted resulting in the arrest of the suspect in his residence in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.
Trogo said a pack of shabu was seized in the suspect's possession. The suspect allegedly admitted having used drugs before committing the crime.
Trogo said the suspect will face criminal charges for rape and violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (FREEMAN)
