MANILA, Philippines — May maaasahang suporta si PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa mula sa limang miyembro ng PBA Board of Governors.
Kahapon ay pinagtibay ng pitong miyembro ng PBA Board ang hindi pagbibigay kay Narvasa ng panibagong termino bilang Commissioner.
Mariin naman itong tinuligsa ni San Miguel Beermen governor Robert Non base sa patakaran, polisiya at prinsipyo ng liga.
“They cannot just act on a whim. What they are doing is not in accordance with our by-laws and constitution. All five teams – San Miguel, Ginebra, Star, Kia and Globalport – stand behind Commissioner Narvasa. He enjoys our full support and we have prevailed upon him to stay and do what is right,” wika ni Non.
Hindi dumalo sa ipinatawag na special meeting kahapon ng umaga ang San Miguel, Barangay Ginebra, Star, Globalport at Kia.
Sinabi ni Non na ang nasabing hakbang ng 'disgruntled members of the PBA board' ay pinangunahan ng TNT Katropa.
“These officials do not constitute the majority needed to remove or appoint the commissioner and thereafter, make any changes in the PBA structure, “sabi ni Non.
Sa ilalim ng PBA rules, ang majority sa PBA Board ay ang two-thirds ng kasalukuyang membership o walo sa 12 miyembro.
Dahil dito, tanging ang majority vote ng two-thirds ng league board membership na nakasaad sa by-laws and constitution ang magpapatalsik kay Narvasa.
“So without this clear majority, all changes being made by these renegade members are not allowed, including the appointment of Rickie Santos as officer-in-charge, and would not be binding on the whole board membership,” wika ni Non.
“This includes as well the misrepresentation of NLEX board member Ramon Fernandez as PBA chairman, when in fact, the sitting chairman is still Globalport’s Mikee Romero,” dagdag pa nito.
Noong Oktubre 30 ay inimbitahan ni incoming PBA Board chairman Ramoncito Fernandez ng NLEX si Narvasa sa UCC Cafe sa Libis na inakala niyang tungkol sa gagawing planning session sa United States.
Sa kanyang pagdating ay nadatnan ni Narvasa si Fernandez kasama sina board members Dioceldo Sy (Blackwater), Mert Mondragon (Rain of Shine), Raymund Zorilla (Phoenix) at Dickie Bachmann (Alaska) na tinalakay ang pagtatanggal sa kanya bilang Commissioner.
