6 Pinoy archers may tiket na sa World University Games
MANILA, Philippines - Anim na archers ang nakasungkit ng tiket sa prestihiyosong 2017 Summer World University Games na gaganapin sa Agosto 19 hanggang 30 sa New Taipei City sa Taiwan.
Nanguna sa listahan si University of Baguio standout Jayson Mendoza na nagkampeon sa 1st National Students Men’s Archery qualifying tournament na inorganisa ng Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) sa Baguio Archery Range sa Baguio City.
Makakasama ni Mendoza sa koponan si Jules Ecuan ng University of Cordilleras at kapwa University of Baguio archer na si Janus Ventura.
Naghari si Mendoza matapos makalikom ng 530 puntos mula sa 259 sa first leg at 271 sa second habang pumangalawa lamang si Ecuan na may 455 puntos na nakuha (242 sa first leg at 213 sa second leg) at ikatlo si Ventura na nagrehistro ng 427 puntos (196 sa first at 241 sa second).
Ibabandera naman ng Pilipinas sa women’s division sina Asian University Archery Championship veterans Loren Chloe Balaoing at Shanaya Dangla kasama si Cynah Banasen Hidalgo.
Ang tatlong Pinay archers ay pare-parehong nagmula sa University of Baguio.
“The support of the FESSAP is beneficial to the archers from the City of Pines and we encourage our athletes to do their best during the Taipei competition and bring glory to the country,” pahayag ni Baguio City Archery Club President John Hongitan.
Mapapalaban ang Pinoy squad sa matitikas na koponan sa mundo kabilang na ang powerhouse United States, Russia, China, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, South Korea at France.
