The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University recovered from a second set setback and repulsed University of the Philippines, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, to tie its victim at third in the UAAP season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan yesterday.

Bernadeth Pons came away with 24 points on 22 attacks and two blocks while coming through with 23 digs in another superb all-around performance to lead the Lady Tamaraws to their third straight victory for a 4-2 card.

Remy Palma and Toni Basas punched in 11 markers apiece to provide solid backup to Pons.

Diana Carlos tallied 17 points on 12 spikes, three aces and two blocks and made 27 digs, and Isa Molde chipped in 11 markers and had 21 digs for the Lady Maroons who fell to their second straight defeat after a sweep of their first four games.

Skipper Arielle Estrañero dished out 61 excellent sets.

“It’s a good thing that we are able to recover. That’s what we really want to see, unlike how we were before whenever we are down in the set,” said head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

Later in the day, University of Santo Tomas scored its first back-to-back victory as it thwarted National University, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.

Cherry Rondina unloaded 15 points on 14 hits, collected 16 digs and had 10 excellent receptions, while EJ Laure and Mary Pacres contributed 11 markers apiece for the Tigresses who evened their card at 3-3 for a share of fifth with the Lady Bulldogs.
