Over 200 slots sold out in just 8 days

CEBU, Philippines - In just eight days, the 200-plus slots for the first ever Consolacion Mountainbike Duathlon set for March 26 have already been sold out.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the huge turnout of entrants. Never did I imagine that the slots will be sold out in such a short span of time," said Cebuano fitness ambassador Alan G. Choachuy of Coach A Metafit Fitness Boot Camp, the lead organizer of the two-in-one race that is backed up by Consolacion LGU, its Tourism Board and SM City-Consolacion. "I think it's the first time that a local race is fully booked already with still 26 days to go before the event."

"That inspires us to work extra harder to make the participants feel as if they are joining an international event at a very minimal registration fee. That is really our main goal," added Choachuy, who will be assisted by race route designer Fritz Co and race technical and safety director Terence Fernandez in running the race.

The lung-busting competition will start with a five-kilometer run, followed by a grueling 20km bike, and will culminate with a 3km run.

There will be an open/elite category for both male and female entries as well as the relay open. The age groups featured are the 19 years old and below, 20-29 (millenials), 30-39 (veterans), 40-49 (masters) and 50-above (golden boys).

Close to P100,000 in cash prize and in kind wil be given away to the top finishers.

The open/elite champion will pocket P5,000, while the second to fifth will receive P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P800, respectively.

On top of that, the champion in each category will get a Lezyne GPS cyclo computer and a limited edition yellow jersey.

All finishers will also get specially crafted medals from Durabend.
