Tanay mishap victims’ kin get cash aid

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The families of those who died in the bus accident in Tanay, Rizal have started receiving cash assistance.

At least 11 families received P80,000 as partial passenger insurance and cash assistance from Panda Coach Tours and Transport, it was learned on Friday.

The families of the fatalities are set to receive a total of P250,000 in passenger insurance.

Fifteen people, 13 of them students of the Bestlink College of the Philippines in Novaliches, Quezon City, died and 40 others were injured when their bus slammed into a concrete lamppost on their way to a resort for a camping activity on Monday.

The parents of the students said the funeral and burial expenses should not be deducted from the passenger insurance. They claimed BestLink College was negotiating with the bus company so the school could reimburse the funeral assistance given to them.

BestLink College said it provided around P50,000 in funeral, transport and cash assistance to the families of the fatalities.

The families also have a pending insurance claim from Paramount Life and General Insurance amounting to P50,000.

They said they expect to receive the balance of the financial aid today.
