Health care, cash, cake for Alcoy centenarian
CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board has supported the Municipality of Alcoy in giving benefits and services to its centenarian constituents.
The PB has approved the municipal ordinance, upon the recommendation of Board Member Jose Mari “Tata” Salvador, who heads the PB committee on senior citizens.
Salvador cited Section 447a(5) of the Local Government Code of 1991 which provides incentives for non-governmental agencies to support programs and projects for the benefits of the elderly.
“The subject ordinance granting benefits to qualified centenarian citizens in the Municipality of Alcoy is well within the powers of the concerned local government unit, as mandated by the above mentioned provisions of the Local Government Code,” Salvador said.
The municipal ordinance that was duly approved by Mayor Michael Angelo Sestoso provides P10,000, congratulatory letter, free health care services including monthly check-ups at the Municipal Health Center, a birthday cake, burial assistance of P5,000 and plaque of recognition as the “Centenarian Citizen Award” during the 100th birthday of a centenarian.
An awardee must be a permanent resident of the municipality for at least six years up to the recognition.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Association of Barangay Councils, Barangay Health Workers, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs, and the Office of the Civil Registrar are tasked to evaluate the eligibility and confirmation of awardees. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
