Lady Warriors rout Maroons, boost semis bid

MANILA, Philippines – Love Sto. Domingo shot 19 points and hauled down seven rebounds as University of the East stayed on course for a Final Four berth with a 53-39 win over ousted University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.

Eunique Chan added 12 points and seven boards while Ruthlaine Tacula had 10 points, eight assists and five boards as the Lady Warriors posted a 7-3 slate in third place.

Defending champion National University and De La Salle continue to hold the 1-2 spots in the tournament with 11-0 and 8-2 marks, respectively.

Jamie Alcoy fired 16 points as Adamson University nipped Ateneo, 65-64, in overtime to move to fourth spot at 5-6 in a match which has a lot of implications for the last semifinals berth.

Hazelle Yam led the Lady Eagles with 13 points, Jollina Go had 12 points while Kristina Deacon came through with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Ateneo, which turned the ball over 42 times, fell in fifth spot with its seventh loss in 11 matches.

The Lady Maroons, meanwhile, slipped at 1-10 in last place. ?
