Maiden FDR Visayas GP revs off today

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's hometown pride Simon Spencer Solon is the man to watch when the inaugural staging of the FDR Visayas Grand Prix gets underway today at the Hoopsdome in Lapu-Lapu City.

Solon, an FDR-Gud Moto mainstay who just turned 16 years old, is the fastest teenage rider in Cebu today.

In his quest for expert division crown, Solon is expected to face tough challenge  from  a bunch of veteran racers in the mold of Mark Capoy, Keken Cabahug, Louie Vega and Lyndon Requilme among others.

Several other up and coming daredevils are also expected to show up especially that it's a multi-brand race presented by FDR and organized by the Mallari Racing Development.

After years of planning, it finally come to fruition behind the support of the Lapu-Lapu City government, USRA, Philippine National Red Cross-Lapu-Lapu/Cordova Chapter, Inside Racing, The Racing Line, KYT, YSS, SSS, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and MS Motosuit, which provides the timing device.

The categories to be contested are the expert, intermediate and novice underbone and automatic 130, beginners underbone and at superstock 115, ladies Honda Beat and underbone superstock. There will also be a Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha Club race.

The event is open to the public for free, but the organizers are hoping for everyone's cooperation to stay away from the tracks for their own safety. (FREEMAN)
