Junior volley teams clash for 17-U, 13-U crowns in WVL finals

MANILA, Philippines - Top teams will slug it out for the 17-Under and 13-U crowns in the developmental and competitive division of the Women’s Volleyball League (WVL), one of the country’s biggest and longest running volleyball tournaments for girls, on March 5 at the San Beda College gym.

 The finals of the event, organized by BEST (Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training) Center and sponsored by Milo, will pit Saint Pedro Poveda College and St. Paul College Makati in the 17-U Developmental Division and King’s Montessori School Team A and San Pedro Relocation Center National High School in the 17-U Competitive Division.

Vying for the 13-U crown are Colegio San Agustin Team A and School of Saint Anthony (development division) and another team from CSA versus King’s Montessori School in the Competitive Division.

In the battle for third in the 17-U competitive division, King”s Montessori School-B faces St. Scholastica’s College-A.

“We are very excited to see a lot of young girls showcase their passion for volleyball,” said BEST Center founder Nicanor Jorge. “WVL serves as a great venue for these girls to test their skills and abilities in volleyball and it enables them to gain confidence in playing for major competitions. We are looking forward to producing more promising young girls who will someday be representing our country in big leagues.”

BEST Center, also known for its long-running basketball clinics, is a recipient of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) award for grassroots developoment and the Olympism Award from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) as hall of famer.

The WVL was cited by PSA during its 2016 Awards Night “for being a consistent breeding ground of young talents in volleyball for the past 20 years”.
