Trader kills burglar

MANILA, Philippines -  A businessman shot dead a suspected burglar who broke into his residence in Tanauan City, Batangas yesterday.

Manolito Mendoza, 49, suffered a gunshot wound after he exchanged fire with the burglar at around 2:20 a.m.

Reports said Mendoza was roused from sleep by a noise coming from the first floor of his house in Barangay Banadero.

The burglar, whose face was covered with a bonnet, shot Mendoza, hitting him on the left shoulder.

Mendoza returned fire, killing the robber at the scene. He fired another shot into the air to scare away a group of men apparently waiting outside at a tricycle.

Police have yet to identify the burglar.
