How to use those colored concealers
Blemish camouflage: Colored concealers neutralize the discoloration in our skin.

When you enter a makeup store and see all of these colored concealers — pink, green, yellow, white, orange and even purple — have you ever wondered, “What on earth will I use that for?”

Well, guess what: these colored concealers actually play a big part in creating the perfect canvas for makeup application. They neutralize the discoloration in our skin. In other words, if you have pimples, eye bags or dark spots that won’t disappear, no matter how much concealer you put, color correcting will neutralize the color and make it disappear.

So how does this work, exactly? For example, if you have big red rash on your face, you use a green color-correcting product that will even out the color of your rash, making it almost invisible. If you want to find out what color neutralizes what, look at a color wheel: the color opposite what you want to conceal (in this case, red) is the correction color. Here is a comprehensive guide:

Green concealers. As I mentioned, green cancels out red. So if you have any annoying red zits or acne scars, spot this concealer onto them and they will disappear. If you have a wider spread of redness, like rosacea, sunburn or windburn, using a green-colored primer will ease the color of the rash and also allow flawless application of foundation.

Pink concealers. More known as salmon or peach, this concealer is responsible for brightening dark areas. Have you ever experienced using a natural concealer to cover your dark circles but it just turns them gray? Well, to stop that from happening, before applying your concealer like you would normally do, apply a salmon concealer. Pink has hues of red, orange and yellow and this cancels out the darkness of the blue, purple and green under your eyes. You will look like you slept for days!

Purple concealers. If you have a yellow complexion and want to brighten your face, use a purple primer. This will brighten and remove all of the yellow tones in your face. If you also want to conceal yellow spots, use a purple concealer as well.

Yellow concealers. Yellow is the most commonly used correcting concealer. It’s perfect for evening out your skin before applying foundation. Depending on your skin tone, it can make the bluish tint on your skin disappear. You can even use it as an eyeshadow base to even out the color on your eyelid before applying shadow.

Orange concealers. If you have a darker skin tone, using orange is the way to go. For those rocking morena skin, to get the most effect from your color correcting use an orange concealer, but remember to always check against your skin tone.

White concealers. White concealer is used for highlighting different parts of your face. To avoid to looking like Casper the Ghost, only apply this on areas that are needed for highlights, such as the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and your cupid’s bow. You can also use this to highlight under your brows and the inner corners of your eyes.

Natural concealers. The basic concealers we all know and love are great when you don’t have many problem areas and just need something to cover basic pimples and any other imperfections you want to cover. Remember, you can also use this concealer over your color-corrected areas.

Remember to check the shade of color you need for correction. If you have a fairer complexion, lighter colors will look best on you, while darker shades work better on darker skin tones.
