SMBeer paborito pa rin

MANILA, Philippines — Tatayo pa ring paborito ang San Miguel para sa 2018 PBA Philippine Cup na hahataw sa Linggo sa Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ito ay dahil na rin sa pagbandera nina four-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, one-time PBA MVP Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross at Marcio Lassiter.

Sa Mayo naman inaasahang makakalaro si Fil-German Christian Standhardinger, ang No. 1 overall pick ng 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.

Ang mga pumili sa Beermen bilang ‘team to beat’ sa season-opening conference ay sina incoming league chairman Ramoncito Fernandez ng NLEX, Robert Non ng San Miguel, Alfrancis Chua ng Barangay Ginebra, Rene Pardo ng Magnolia, Mamerto Mondragon ng Rain or Shine, Dickie Bachmann ng Alaska, outgoing chairman Mikee Romero ng Globalport, Bobby Rosales ng Kia, Silliman Sy ng Blackwater, Raymond Zorilla ng Phoenix at TNT assistant team manager Magnum Membrere.

Bukod sa Beermen, dinomina ang PBA Philippine Cup sa huling tatlong sunod na taon, isinama din ng mga PBA Board of Governors ang Gin Kings at Tropang Texters bilang top three teams.

“It’s a toss-up between SMB, Ginebra, and TNT. They will fight in the top three,” wika ni Fernandez sa press conference kahapon para sa 43rd Season ng PBA. “It will be a good game.”

Ang Fuel Masters ang unang maghahamon sa Beermen sa ganap na alas-6:15 ng gabi sa Big Dome.

“TNT, Ginebra at San Miguel,” sabi naman ni Non. “TNT, intact ‘yung lineup. They have bigs who can match up with June Mar. Same thing with Ginebra, Greg is back in the lineup.”

Ang pagbabalik ng seven-footer na si Greg Slaughter ang naghatid sa Gin Kings sa korona ng nakaraang 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup habang muling aasahan ng Tropang Texters sina Jayson Castro, Kelly Williams, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario at Moala Tautuaa.

“TNT is a team to beat. SMB hindi pa malakas iyan kasi wala pa si Standhardinger. Second conference pa,” wika ni Chua.
