Cagayan de Oro declares state of calamity

As of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Mayor Oscar Moreno said that the rain has subsided but that the skies are still cloudy.

 

"The situation has now normalized," Moreno said in an interview over ANC.

 

He added that the water level of major rivers are back to normal.

 

The mayor said that a little over 3,000 people or about 1,000 families are still in 18 evacuation centers, but are now starting to go back to their houses.

 

Moreno said that a 14 year-old boy from Barangay Agusan passed away early Tuesday morning after a wall collapsed on him..

 

"It was very unfortunate because the worst was already over when it happened," the mayor said of the lone casualty.

 

Moreno also said that authorities are still estimating the damage caused by the flooding, but said that "it would run in the millions."

 

Anthony Damalerio of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said in the same report that the local government they is monitoring situations across the province. He said disaster risk reduction and management personnel as well as local first responders have been alerted.

 

Ambulances and emergency equioment are also ready for deployment.
