STARTALK - Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A dead body of a woman was found inside a septic tank of a commercial establishment in Purok Mangga, Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday afternoon.

The body, which was retrieved by two funeral service personnel and a barangay staff with the use of a rope past 2 p.m., was identified as that of Jocelyn Berdin, 52, a resident of Purok Atis.

Police Officer 3 Joseph Rouel Cutanda, investigator of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office-Homicide Section, said a certain Darwin Sereno noticed something odd about the septic tank, which was covered with just a piece of plywood.

"Pag-January 21, around 2 p.m., naka-observe siya og usa ka tsinelas. Wa'y paris ang tsinelas.

Then, pagka-January 23, ang usa ka tsinelas, nakit-an niya nga ga-lutaw na sa septic tank," Cutanda said, adding that the body was not visible yet at this time.

At 11 a.m. yesterday, Sereno and his companions found the body when they were about to clean the septic tank.

"Kato ganiha (yesterday), naka-obserba sila nga abi nila usa ka sako. Mao ilaha gikuhit, pagkahibaw nila nga tawo, nanawag na dayon sila og barangay," Cutanda said.

Berdin, who was reportedly suffering from a mental disorder, had been missing since last Friday. Residents were able to identify her body the moment she was taken out from the septic tank, police said.

Police have yet to determine the cause of Berdin's death and why her body ended up inside the septic tank.

The body has been sent to Surelife Funeral Homes for an autopsy. (FREEMAN)
