Facebook joins DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela

MANILA, Philippines – Social media giant Facebook has joined the Department of Education (DepEd) in its week-long Brigada Eskwela, which aims to ensure that public schools are ready for the opening of classes on June 13.

Facebook created a dedicated Brigada Eskwela button that enables users to share the initiative among their contacts.

“It’s Brigada Eskwela! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students,” Facebook said.

The Facebook button was launched as Education Secretary Armin Luistro called on the private sector to help teachers, families, local government units and community members in ensuring that schools all over the country are prepared for the school opening.

“Our schools need to be prepared for one of the biggest changes that we have made to the country’s education system,” said Luistro, who was in Nueva Vizcaya on Monday for the start of Brigada Eskwela.

“We encourage businesses to help us deliver quality education by helping communities create clean, safe and disaster-ready schools for the students,” he added.

Luistro said businesses looking for opportunities for their employees may sign up with the Adopt-A-School Program and work with the schools nearest their communities.

Interested organizations are encouraged to help schools by painting roofs, ceilings and walls, cementing existing footpaths and drains, repairing comfort rooms and wash facilities, fixing electrical wiring, repairing and repainting chairs, desks and furniture, broken windows, jalousies and doors, cleaning up school grounds and replacing school signs.
