“Of Guise and Glam”

CEBU, Philippines - Jongz Loquinario holds a special distinction within the ranks of the metro’s designers – his designs amp up the zing in festivals and bespoke celebrations. Loquinario is a prized costume designer.

This young designer works with materials like neoprene and foamboard. His creations have graced ramps, catwalks and festivals in various parts of the country in the past several years – having celebrities like Ethel Booba, Anne Curtis and Angeline Quinto, among many others wear his designs in top events.

While he is known for costume ensembles, Loquinario has also been taking part in various group fashion presentations, where he displays his eveningwear designs. Last February 18, Loquinario had his first solo fashion show.

Titled “Of Guise and Glam” and held in The Hall of Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan, the event highlighted the style directions which Loquinario aims to cause in the local haute couture scene, apart from the occasion doubling as his formal entry into the “mainstream” fashion design arena.

The featured pieces in “Of Guise and Glam” collectively bore allusions to Loquinario’s festival-costume background, transposed into the classic cuts and sheens that are standard in eveningwear design.

Blending the de facto with novel applications of art deco and art nouveau, Loquinario’s creations were modernist and vibrant – certainly festive contemporary designs.

Currently engaged in developing production designs for an upcoming teleserye, Loquinario would seem to be burning himself out. But he also seems to know too well what he is into. While productions and stage shows may pan out, the designer finds himself something else to get busy in – and so when “the curtains fall,” “the show must go on” for Loquinario, with the same penchant for quality that he is making a name for himself for.
